Unless you have been living under a rock for the last 29 years, you would not have missed the Ikea-ification of the UK. Surely you are not missing out on a BILLY bookcase or SKOGSTA storage solution?
I was surprised to read on my favourite Taiwan based, tech news website RocketNews24, that Ikea (or ik-ia as some sales folk are trying to get us to call them recently), have pioneered a non-iPhone hotplate.
Now, having spent some time in my mis-spent youth, backpacking around Japan, I can fully expect this is a pretty suitable product for the region. Ikea are on to something and they realise it. I have a number of Ikea designed pieces of furniture in my home, and I am a massive fan of their Kalles Kaviar, in toothpaste tubes. This last item is pretty much a Swedish breakfast staple. I must say I was perturbed a few Decembers ago when in my local (and the first in the UK) Ikea, I was told reindeer balls were off the menu, until the new year, as too many kids were 'joining the dots'.
On a serious note though, and I am as guilty as charged as others, are we spending just too much time on our Smartphone's? I have tweeted the odd food pic, sure. Particularly the younger generation though, is it about enjoying the moment, or telling the world how well we are enjoying the moment?
Enjoying the moment is the point, isn't it? Those memories will last the rest of our lives, but will only have a very fleeting existence on Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter etc.
The Ikea innovation resembles a 1980's fondue, with Smartphone's stored underneath the main cooking area. It's certainly something that could have been inspired by the 'Slow-food' movement, if you have ever come across them. I think that they would certainly approve, at any rate.

I think it's good to connect with your friends or companions over a good meal. In fact the origin of the word 'companion' in Latin, is 'together with bread'. Literally, the people we break bread and dine with. So maybe this is one area where we should, park the tech and just go with the flow. Probably good advice. Lets take it now and again people.
